Golf gti edition 30 new brakes all round

This set off discs and pads are from 71000 miles.
Here's the original post

http://johnoldfield.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/golf-gti-edition-30-mot-new-brakes.html?m=1

To 98513 miles (now)

= 27000 miles

Front 2/3rds worn discs worse than pads.

They have been brilliant over lots of commuting and several track days.

New stuff

340mm tts j hooked discs ( love drilled but going to try j hook)
Ferrodo ds2500 pads (on car before and work brilliantly but can squeal )
Rear std pagid discs and pads (std oe stuff is fine)

£500 supplied by vagbremtech
£55 for 2 backplates
£140 fitting costs

Changing mostly because of pedal vibration and really badly corroded rear discs..
Rear cross drilled discs were a big mistake.

Rear backplates both rusted broken mountings.
Rattling away before change

Came sprayed but also applied dc90 child zinc primer  to disc bell's

Also found that Exhaust is blowing on the centre section.

Bed in still to happen

Indesit FDU20IX Oven light on but no fan, no heat : replacing the door microswitch

Indesit FDU20IX Oven

I have already replaced oven element , bulb and thermostats on this oven ( more than once!) over the years, this time around it was different...

On this oven, previous diagnostics have been along the following lines which has worked well :

If the power light is OFF when turn oven knob on            = replace the thermostat
If the power light comes ON, and fan ON but NO HEAT = replace the element

but this time I had :

Turn oven on, power light comes ON , oven bulb lights but NO FAN and NO HEAT !
Not having the fan run was a new one.

I have recently replaced the element, so I did check again and nothing obvious in terms of fused parts.

It could have been a broken fan, but I still would have expected the element to heat up (but it didnt)
Looking through parts list on ESpares, I did start reading the reviews for replacement fans and the door microswitch and something twigged it just may be that!.

So I went to the oven, turned it on and started playing with the door switch, and voila the fan moved slighty :-)  result.

So ordered a switch

Was able to pull the oven out (a tried and tested procedure by now) , and remove the side panel by removing as little screws as possible (didnt need the whole top and rear removed.

Switch is just held in by 2 screws.

Ford Kuga Mk1 2.0 TDCI : replace front brake pads /new mcgard locking wheel nuts / stainless steel wheel nuts

Cars mileage today was 79263 miles

See an earlier post where I originally replaced the discs and pads with Ford OE items from a Ford dealer on ebay

http://johnoldfield.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/ford-kuga-163-20-tdci-diy-replacing.html?m=1

Old oe pads lasted 35000 miles
Discs were fine, so only pads needed replacing

Note, that these are Brembo pads, not Ford OE but are supposedly of a better than OE spec

Old vs New

Locking nuts replacement

Ford OE had rusted.
Have used McGard before and they are the locking nuts guru's

£37

Wheel nuts replacement

The Ford OE wheel nuts are 2 piece with a stainless cap and steel body. These quite quickly degrade and the cap falls off, leaving a rust head (that isnt the OE head size)

The Kuga forums provided a great alternative. Get full stainless steel wheel bolts that include a stainless washer

16 x ALLOY WHEEL NUTS WITH FLOATING WASHERS FOR FORD (28MM WIDE) M12X1.5 [N1]

from this ebay shop
http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tech_world_direct/?ssPageName=ADME:::GB:1181

£20

With new bolts all round it all looks nice and clean :-)
