Osmo Action 5 Pro : Aria Renegade V helmet mount for motorcycle footage

So I finally bought an Osmo Action 5 Pro to record by biking adventures.

Been watching for years on the pricing, until a deal on at Currys (UK) where the price dropped to £359 for the Adventure Combo  (includes 3 batteries and a charging case)  Jan 2025

Mounting to the helmet

I own an Arai Renegade V helmet

I originally looked at the chinmount but its from USA so postage is large % cost and you still need enough bracket to space from the helmet so it can point forward.

In the end I combined 2 bracket kits to make a single mount I was happy with

Kit 1 : £17 : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CR1FZLDY
Kit 2 : £8   : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076VZ8THQ

I used the curved helmet mount from Kit 1
I used the 2 90 degree extensions from Kit 2 (these are fixed (no handles) and create more distance away from the helmet so the angle is correct
the camera mag mount / tighten handle is supplied with the camera

In reality you could just use Kit 2 for it all, but I prefer the locking tab (self retained and black) in Kit 1

detachable from the helmet mount itself with a black insert to secure it

curved mount (3M adhesive) surrounded by Sugru !

Kit below provided the 2 elbow pieces

Kit below provided the curved mount and bolt and slotted bracket

Using the camera in a motorcycle context

256GB memory card
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09X7DMBVF

Each battery should last approximately 4hrs
A 256GB memory card can record approx 9hrs footage (at 2.7K 4:3 30fps)

So for a 3 day NC500 trip
I will need 3 x 256GB memory cards ( 1 for each day)
3 batteries should cover a full day (charging all 3 at night for the next day)

BMW S1000R 2024 (actually 3rd Jan 2025!) MOT 2991 miles this year

For various reasons my MOT ran out on 20th December and I failed to book it in before everyone took off for the Xmas period.

Bike had new tyres from the recent service see https://johnoldfield.blogspot.com/2024/12/bmw-s1000r-yearly-service-2024.html

Of note the dipped beam bulb (H7) had also failed at some point so that needed to be replaced before the MOT. Did it myself, easy job just need to have tiny fingers!

I got 2 replacements again (1 to replace and 1 to keep as spare) from ledperf  (note they come from france so can take 3-4 days postage)
2 x Xenon Effect bulbs pack for BMW Motorrad S 1000 R (2017 - 2020) headlights (FEUXS1000RWH) = 13.80€
- Low-beam headlights  (Marque : Michiba Diamond White)

(Of note the bulb has lasted just over 2 years, I changed to whiter still halogen bulbs (sidelights(LED) dipped and main beam  and added an angel eye to the bike in Aug 2022)
The bulb / housing gets very hot for the dipped beam, be careful not to ever leave it covered (or tape for a track day!) or the reflector/lense will get burnt/damaged.
I have not moved to LED dipped as it effects the beam pattern badly.

Easy to change, one bolt to remove and get your fingers in...

Back to the MOT

Finally booked into Northwest Motorcycles using their handy ability to book online for a slot that suits you. They have great reviews and the normal place I go was closed.

So booked for Jan 3rd which as it turned out matched a cold weather front and freezing/black ice conditions in my area. Luckily it started to rain and the temperature increased enough to thaw the roads! Dont forget I was also on the new tyres as yet not bedded in
I dont mind going out in most weathers but I draw the line at snow and black ice....

Heated gloves on max setting ( RST Paragon 6 I got as an early Xmas present) I ventured off for the MOT.

Slow journey but fine, heavens opened on the way so I got drenched too, lovely.

Note the fully legal UK numberplate (and reflector)

Went off for a coffee at the Catalyst Centre shop and waited 30mins for a PASS.

So between MOT's thats

21 December 2023       16,604 miles
to
3 January      2025       19,595 miles

2991 miles in period
