Nexus One GRI40 Gingerbread is go :-)

at last, been trying manual checkins for a while but takes a while for Google servers to cycle through the OTA update.
So being impatient Ive downloaded the file and installed manually :-)

Follow process below

How to manually update your Nexus One to gingerbread

The Nexus One's over-the-air update to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread (erm, not Android 2.4) is starting to push out. But if you can't wait (that'd be us), you can manually install the update. It's the same thing as the OTA update, just, not OTA. Here's how to install:

Download the update from http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/passion/81304b2de707.signed-passion-GRI40-from-FRG83G.81304b2d.zip

Rename the file to update.zip. Note that if you're using Windows, just rename it to "update" (no quotes, of course) because it's already a zipped file.
Copy the update.zip file onto your microSD card.
With your Nexus One off, hold down the trackball and press the power button.
You'll be booted into a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards. Select "Bootloader."
On the next screen, select "Recovery."
Your phone will reboot, giving you a picture of the Android robot and an exclamation point inside a triangle.
Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time. It could take a couple of tries.
Now (using the trackball this time) choose "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and let things run their course.

insurance renewal : Golf GTI Edition 30 remapped

39 yrs old
9+ yrs protected NCB
no points
not a great postcode (but not horrendous either)
2 previous claims (3 and 4 yrs ago)

07 Edition 30 , stg1 REVO + R32 brakes , 10k/year , valued at £12k

this year I really struggled to get insured for anything approaching a reasonable price.

Chris Knott (who I was with) quoted £891
most others wouldnt quote (due to the postcode) or couldnt beat 891
(this includes many of the specialists)

Job done, but seems very steep, maybe Ill just get a 1.4 !

Sony BDP-S350 firmware upgrade

required for some new functionality to play some newer discs but to be honest Ive not upgraded the firmware since we bought it a long time ago!

i think it was
1.6.007
and this updates it to
1.7.024

whatever the exact details, it was a significant number of versions out

You can connect to a network connection OR download to a CDR and do it that way.
Obvious choice for me was to unplug the BT Vision boxes network cable and use that for the update (its a connection that uses these power adapters to route the signal through the house)

In the future a small switch would mean I could keep both plugged in permanently (meaning I could also utilise some of the downloadable content on newer discs)

Very simple but worth doing, the unit even seems start up quicker than before which is an added bonus.
